Schengen visa from the UAE: the document checklist

Everything UAE residents need to gather before a Schengen visa appointment, from bank statements to travel insurance.

By Quick Link travel team · 5 September 2026

A Schengen visa lets you visit Switzerland and more than two dozen other European countries on one application. The documents are straightforward once you know what the embassy expects, and having everything ready before your appointment is the biggest time-saver. Switzerland is one of the more popular Schengen destinations for UAE residents, and the checklist below applies whichever country you apply through, since the core document list is set by the Schengen area as a whole rather than by any one country.

Core documents

  • Passport valid for at least three months past your return date, with two blank pages
  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • Two recent passport-sized photos on a white background
  • Cover letter stating your travel dates and purpose of visit
  • Confirmed return flight booking
  • Hotel bookings, or an invitation letter if staying with someone

Keep both a digital and a printed copy of every document. Some visa centres ask to see the printed set at the counter, even when the online form has already been submitted, so it is worth bringing one extra copy of each page in case anything is misplaced on the day.

Financial and employment documents

The embassy wants to see that you can afford the trip and have a reason to return to the UAE. Bring your last three months of bank statements, a salary certificate or trade licence, and a letter of leave approval from your employer if you are an employee. Self-employed applicants can use a trade licence and recent bank statements in place of a salary certificate, and a strong, stable balance over the full three months matters more than a single large deposit just before you apply.

Travel insurance

Schengen rules ask for medical travel insurance with at least EUR 30,000 of cover, valid for every day of your trip and across all Schengen countries. We can issue a compliant certificate the same day, matched exactly to your travel dates.

What we check before you apply

We review your documents against the current checklist before your appointment, so nothing is missing on the day. Visa rules change from time to time, and approval is always the embassy’s decision, not ours, so we cannot guarantee an outcome.

After you apply

Processing usually takes around fifteen working days, longer in peak season. You can track your passport’s return through the visa centre, and we will let you know as soon as it is ready for collection. If your plans change after you apply, tell us straight away, since altered travel dates can affect an application already in progress, and a last-minute amendment is far easier to make before the passport is dispatched than after.
