About this visa
Who needs it: UAE and Sri Lankan passport holders need a Schengen visa to visit any of the 29 countries in the zone, including France, Italy, Switzerland and Spain.
How long it takes: The embassy or visa centre normally gives a decision within 15 working days of your appointment, longer in peak season from June to September.
What can delay it: Missing bank statements, an itinerary that does not match your flight dates, or an appointment booked less than three weeks before you travel.

Apply 4 to 6 weeks before you travel, earlier in July and August when visa centres are busiest.
